About Me

I am Malcolm Scott, a trained piano tuner and technician based in London, with a passion for music and pianos. I offer a range of services to keep your instrument in top condition and sounding its best.

I have always had a love for music and I studied it extensively in Scotland. As a keen pianist, I understand the importance of having a well-tuned and maintained piano.

I received my training at the Piano Technology School in Rugby under the tutelage of Steve Droy. Steve is a senior concert tuner and technician and a well-known teacher in the profession.

Since completing my training, I have been providing piano tuning and repair services to clients in London and the surrounding areas. I am dedicated to ensuring that every piano I work on is in top condition and sounding its best.

Whether you need a one-off tuning or regular maintenance, I am here to help. If you have any questions or would like to book an appointment, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

The piano is a fine instrument

It is used in music of all genres, capable of producing a huge variety of sounds and expressing the full range of emotions. It is a staple of music education and opens up the world of music for millions of people. It possesses a mystique among musical instruments; many people who cannot play it wish that they could. And the piano can be a standout piece of furniture in the family home.

But pianos are delicate. They are made of natural materials such as wood, steel, iron, felt and leather. They respond to the climate, affecting the tone and the tuning, and they wear out. Then it becomes a different story – an out-of-tune piano sounds bad, irritates the neighbours, discourages children from practicing and learning, and puts people off making music.

A piano should therefore be tuned and checked for wear and tear twice a year, or more if frequently used.

I offer a comprehensive range of services for upright and grand pianos, including tuning, general servicing, and repairs for domestic customers, music venues, schools, and other organisations.

I am also able to advise on wider-ranging repairs and recommend the best course of action to keep your piano in top condition.

Piano Tuning & Repairs

I use a combination of traditional aural techniques and the latest tuning software to tune, including pitch-raising, and fine-tuning. Common repairs that I carry out include fixing broken strings, sticking notes and dampers, squeaky pedals, and damaged keys and hammers.

I use high-quality tools and precision techniques to ensure each repair is carried out to the highest standard, restoring your instrument's full functionality and sound.

My Services

Piano Regulation

I also provide regulation to ensure a smooth and consistent action across the piano. This involves making adjustments to the mechanism, such as the keys, hammers, and pedals, to ensure that the instrument is performing at its best.

Piano Voicing

I also offer voicing, which involves adjusting the tonal characteristics of the piano to produce a pleasing sound that is suited to the instrument's environment.

Buying a New Piano?

For those who are considering purchasing a new piano, I can provide advice on the quality and condition of the instrument, ensuring that you make an informed decision.

My Prices

I offer competitive pricing for all of my piano tuning and repair services.

For a standard tuning, my fee is £95.

I use the latest tuning techniques and technology to ensure that your piano is perfectly tuned and sounding its best.

For other services, such as repairs, regulation, and voicing, I charge £60 per hour.

This usually includes the cost of materials that may be required for the job. However, please note that the exact price may vary depending on the extent of the work required. I am always happy to discuss prices with my clients, and I can provide you with a detailed quote based on the specific services you require.

Where I Work

I understand that pianos can be delicate and challenging to move, which is why I offer a mobile piano tuning service. This means that I will come to your home, school, or venue to tune your piano, saving you the time and hassle of having to transport it to a workshop.

I cover the whole of London and will travel beyond that within reason. In particular, I am happy to travel to the east and north of London.
